License Requirements

Who needs a license in Mississippi? All residents and non-residents from 16 to 64 years old need to obtain a hunting license, except while hunting on their lands.

Hunters who are under 16 years old need to purchase the Youth Under 16 License to be able to hunt all game animals. Senior residents who are 65 and older can obtain a free license which includes all game hunting and fishing.

Mississippi residents who have paraplegia, visually impaired or a multiple-amputee are not required to have a hunting or a fishing license, but they are required to have a proof of their age, residency and disability status while hunting.

All persons who are born on January 1, 1972, need to complete a Hunter Education Course before being able to obtain any license. Persons who are first-time hunters and haven’t taken the education course, and are at least 21 years old can obtain an Apprentice License. You can purchase all the licenses online.

Night Hunting in Mississippi

Night hunting is allowed in Mississippi, but there are few exceptions. You can hunt at night raccoons, opossums, foxes, beaver, coyotes, nutria, and bobcats with or without the use of light. It’s permitted to hunt with dogs, except turkey seasons.

Night vision is allowed by the law of the state of Mississippi.
